Green Committee of Beaumont Retirement Community

Our committee was formed a year ago, and our first target has been to learn about the recycling that occurs here. I am attaching a report that I wrote on our recyclers. Regrettably our municipality, Lower Merion Township, did not choose to attempt to enforce single stream recycling, so we are now about to inform our residents that they no longer need to follow our former rigorous separation of recyclables.

We have been trying to find non-foam, biodegradable packaging at competitive prices since our dining service makes considerable use of foam and other non-biodegradables for take-out meal deliveries.

Another current project is to explore composting of vegetable waste matter generated in our central kitchen. Should you have any advice concerning this, it would be most welcome.

I look forward to hearing from you.
